Obsessed with / Global Style

Untitled-2I’m tweaking the house a little bit and I’ve found myself gravitating towards well travelled looks, bohemian, and natural pieces. I’ve stumbled on some amazing pricing on some pieces, so you and I can get the “look for less”. I called this the “Global Style” but I’m not sure if that’s an accurate description for this roundup. Pretty much whatever the look is above, I’m obsessed.

If your budget allows, then some more designer pillows may be up your alley. I’m a big pillow hoarder and feel like pillows can instantly change a room, so am guilty of splurging on pillows like these…

roundup of the best pillows on etsy

the best pillows found on etsy

After yesterday’s post lacking of colour and dismal pre-spring garden shots (and a rotting deck!) I needed to throw some colour at you. I have a few decorating projects in the works and at the top of my list is always pillows. My style is always white, bright and open and airy rooms with crazy hits of colour thrown at you in pillows. Pillows are the BEST way to add some style to a room at a really reasonable cost. Some pillows aren’t inexpensive – decorative ones (like this one that is my FAVOURITE EVER in my house) are the cost of a good gallon of paint. But it’s more powerful than paint. Because it’s so stylish and let’s face it. Throwing a designer pillow on your couch is also WAY EASIER than throwing a gallon of paint on your wall. So when  friends ask me to help makeover a room, I always gravitate to neutral couches and such – but tell them to have some fun with the pillows. One thing I have been guilty of is buying too small of a pillow for rooms. So consider 20″ and bigger for couches, because the small ones just (in my opinion)end up being tossed on the floor. But BIG pillows (especially down filled ones) you end up sinking into, and enjoying as you relax.

Although I adore places like Tonic Living and finding my own fabrics to make into pillows, Etsy is still a huge draw for me because you have such a huge assortment of fabrics and you can see them done up usually before buying. Click here to see my favourite pillows (which include all of the ones I’ve shown here!) by popping over to my Etsy Pillow Collection board. And you may see some of the ones here, in upcoming design projects!

roundup of the best bar carts

1   /    2   /    3   /  4

I’m slightly obsessed with bar carts. Here are some I’ve come across that have made me swooooon.

This one from Serena and Lily is divine. It looks vintage (but isn’t) and although you could click “buy now” on this you may be able to find a similar style in vintage shops. But the straight clean lines of this makes it just that much more appealing – and, slightly more modern. The more I look at it the more I really want it. Ugh. The perils of online shopping.

West Elm’s Bar Cart has always had my heart. It would fit into many decor’s.

Oh Anthropologie.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this. Like LOVE, LOVE it. I want it for my office. Not that I drink in my office and need a bar cart, but bar carts aren’t only for styling alcohol (contrary to their name) Style it with books (much like the Serena and Lily one).

Emily Henderson showed this bar cart from Target and I did a double take. A more affordable version of the Serena and Lily (but if both were the exact same price, I’d pick the Serena one – but still … the price is hard to beat) The photo on their website doesn’t really do the piece any favours, which is why I’ve shown Emily’s photo too.

Just me, obsessing over certain things. Today it’s bar carts. Tomorrow it will be something new. Back to work. Actually, I’m going to go stare at the Serena and Lily one more.

shop finds / West Elm

I’m on the hunt for a few things for a few different makeovers I’m involved in and I’ve found myself on West Elm’s site a lot window shopping. I’m loving the collections their bringing in, which made it a natural fit for this week’s “Shop Finds”. A favourite piece include the Atelier Stella Vases which they have brought back in with some new styles and, my old favourites. (They sold out the last time so if you liked them like I did, now would be the time to grab one.) They are so ridiculously perfect. And new (I think) are some Stella mugs (not shown above). That blanket is calling my name for the winter, and I’m in love with the simplicity of the accessories. Take a peek! xo Linds
