I know Valentine’s Day is a month away but there is absolutely no use in posting these kinds of things a week before the big day and then you can’t do you own project, should you be so inspired to do so. I love little cotton craft bags and have used them in many projects before, but I’ve been itching to try my hand at dyeing some, and headed out to Michaels this week to get some RIT Dye. I needed something to do creatively, to distract myself from the major life changes I’m doing, so dyeing seemed like an innocent enough project to take on and got me feeling inspired. The intention is to fill these up for Oscar’s classmates for Valentine’s Day, perhaps with little erasers or a treat or two.
What You Need
- Cotton Bags (4 x 6)
- Rit Fabric Dye – both the liquid and dry in Petal Pink and Scarlet I purchased mine by walking into a store but if you’re busy, you can order them online from Etsy.
- Mason Jar
- Boiling Water
- They say to use gloves. I didn’t. But I did end up with redish hands afterwards. Do prep your area so you don’t stain counter tops etc.
I used two colours of dye, which looks pretty cool but the same effect can be achieved after doing some experimenting I realized that you can get the same look by allowing the bags to sit for different lenghts of time in the dye. I still loved having two different colours to work with and it’s not that expensive to have two going.
