Bear Chairs Done!

This weekend Aubrey played “Daddy DayCare” and I got to hang out on the front porch and have some zen time on my own staining the Bear Chairs.

We chose stain over paint at the recommendation of my Dad and then confirmed by my favourite Benjamin Moore location at Yonge & Lawrence here in Toronto, where they have never steered me wrong. (It was a discussion in our house as to whether we would stain or paint – Aubrey thought I was bonkers when I told him stain could be indeed thick like paint) Beauty to stain – no priming. And you can get the look of paint. 🙂

I chose Inukshuk (CC-460)

I raised them off the porch so that I could get underneath the feet. It was important to get all wood, especially the end cuts stained, so that water wouldn’t get in and damage the wood.

Love them! We’ve gotten unsolicited compliments from neighbours walking by, which is nice – as it seems genuinne. We love them!

They look great! Never would have guessed you used stain. Where did you buy the chairs from, or did you build them yourself?

Wow, I didn't think stain could look that solid! Thanks for the tip. 🙂

Your blog is pretty much the cutest. Ever. Oscar and his room are just perfect. But I understand the disease of wanting everything "finished". All best to you guys, ADD

They look great, love the colour!

Just a note to anyone checking the Canadian Tire ones out – if they are the Woods brand, they may look unfinished but I am pretty sure they have some sort of factory finish on them; we bought them 2 years ago and stained them exactly as our local Benjamin Moore store instructed (based on the assumption that they were unfinished). Unfortunately the stain flaked off by the end of the summer! Last year I gave them a good sanding and re-stained, it has held up much better!
