Lilacs in bloom

These, make me so happy.

When we bought the house it was in the winter, so the garden was all gray and gloomy. To my delight, when Spring rolled around, I realized that 2 of the big plants in our garden were actually Lilac Trees. It’s a little tradition now for me, to always cut a few off and put them beside our bed, I simply adore the soft purple, and the aroma of these flowers. Sadly, they don’t last very long. But I love this season as I can clip some fresh flowers from our garden at many different stages of Spring & Summer (Peonies, Hydranges and Roses) giving my wallet a little break from the flower shop at the corner. 🙂

Problem is,

MakMak the Cat

likes the flowers too, and has taken to “beheading” them.

It starts off with a chomp on the petal (see the top right) and now in the mornings I’ll find that she’s sometimes chopped the stems in half. No rhyme or reason. She just apparently likes to behead the flowers.

So pretty! I'd love a lilac tree! I happily discovered the previous owners of our house planted tons of tulips. I've been cutting them for weeks!

Our neighbours have a lilac tree and I've been coveting it! We've just started creating our front garden (last year was spent actually building the hardscape – big job! [I blogged about it on Monday if you'd like to see our handywork]) and I plan on planting all kinds of lovely, flowering plants… definitely daffodills and tulips to enjoy next spring. I have yet to discover if my cats will behead flowers, too. 😉

    Lovely photography!

Oh how lucky you are! Lilac is just so lovely, I wish I had had that kind of discovery as well! I planted 4 pionies and 2 of them are showing up already…not bad for the first time gardener… LOL

Oh my gosh. Just found your blog and have been browsing through. You have the exact same kitchen cabinet doors as me! Why oh why couldn't the original owners just have put in plain, timber doors that are easy to paint and change the handles on? Have a look at my blog…it's true I tell you.
