no more open door policy…..

We finally took delivery of our pocket door for the basement bathroom. This solves the great concern that we were going to have an “Open Door Policy” for the basement bathroom. 🙂

What you may not be able to tell from the above is that this is in fact a pocket door for the basement bathroom. My concern with a traditional opening door is the fact that when a door opens, it takes up valuable floor space. Pocket doors, obviously are more modern, but also serve a great purpose of practicality. Design wise, the glass is frosted, giving a little more of an “open” feel to the basement.

Although it is still in packaging I had to post it because we’ve been eagerly awaiting it’s arrival for some time. Although the door is not the style I originally wanted, now that it is in our house, I don’t mind it as much as I thought I might.

When will we put it in? A few factors which I’ll explain about in later posts, but basically we won’t install it until the bathroom is actually “done”. Which brings me to an update on our bathroom in the basement. I just noticed it has been 1 month, plus a day, since we last posted about tiling. As you have noticed, we’re not in a rush to finish it, but finishing it IS a priority. Aubrey worked some more on it yesterday, just cutting some marble for baseboards around the washroom. It’s a slow process, but it’s looking good. 🙂

I think I want to cheat on the fabrics I just married with that door. Great.

Love your door. Pocket doors are so sensible for small spaces.

I strongly believe that the world would be a better place with more pocket doors… or at least my house would. Every square foot counts, right?

PS I love the door already!

Can't wait to see it installed! Like your bathroom, our fireplace project is important but on hold. For us, it is the weather. Winter weather is not conducive to DIY around this part of the country (Minnesota)!!

I dig on pocket doors, too. Actually, they were around as far back as the Victorian era, so they can be right at home in lots of different styles 🙂 Which is nice for me, because I'm not big on too much modern. I **love** the way the basement is coming together. Your art is awesome, Lindsay!

Lovely looking door! What type of hardware are you going to use in the pre-drilled door knob space? Standard door harware won't work right? I ask as we'll be doing the same thing in our basement bathroom that is narrow.

On another note – that lovely yard of fabric on your sofa looks perfect there! You must turn it into pillow covers for your sofa.

I love pocket doors – I wish we had them in our place! Maybe when we renovate our bathroom (wayyy down the road though!). Can't wait to see it put together 🙂

Thank you for the fun feedback!

Jacci – I had no idea that the pocket door goes back that far as the Victorian Era but as I started to think about it I'm sure I've seen pocket style doors in old estates. I'm now intrigued!

Jeannette, the hardware comes with this style/manufacturer of door, and I must admit, I haven't even looked at it yet because picking a style of handle wasn't an option. It is a flush handle, however, and it locks apparently from the inside. 🙂

Kelly – I'm glad you found our blog! Welcome. 🙂

Anonymous, your comment made me realize I hadn't drawn attention to the new source list I put on the blog last week. On the blog, on the right hand column there is a SOURCE area and the paint colours for each room are in there. 🙂

    Lindsay,

What brand of door did you purchase? I'm curious because I am thinking of installing pocket doors onto a closet. Also what kind of preparation work needs to be done? How is the drywall set up to receive the door?

Thanks so much for your help!
