Installing laminate

This is what Aubrey has been doing today…

First, he lay out some planks so we could see what kind of pattern we would go with…

floor 1

The next step was to put a 1 inch spacer along the edge…

Cutting planks .. (see below for why I taped newspaper to the window)
floor 3

floor 4

Poor guy. The sweat beads are dripping off his forehead. I’m so proud of him for doing all of this! I’ve been locked upstairs getting work done, as I’m taking 2 weeks off from work after this week so I can (a) have some time off with Aub and (b) so I can move my studio into the new area! Yippee!

Sooo…why did I tape newpaper to the window? When I was painting the other night, I realized that anyone who walked by would be getting a wonderful view of my sweaty self, and maybe some bum crack shots as I was bent over alot doing trim. I quickly covered the window. 🙂

I love this laminate! We are doing our basement now (flood this summer forced us to) and I have really enjoyed your basement posts since we live in the beaches and it is so similar to ours. Gives me some hope that ours too can look great. If you could please post what laminate flooring you went with I would be so greatful.
Keep posting – you are doing a fantastic job!

Hi Jeannette! Thank you for your kind words. I LOVE the basement now, and am in it 90% of the time. 🙂 The flooring we went with was from Home Depot. It is a Traffic Master brand, and the colour is a Walnut. I hope this helps!! 🙂

Thank you so much Lindsay. You have inspired me with your blog. This is our second house in the beach and the first one we completely gutted. We didn't plan on doing as much work on this one but after 5 years of living in it we realized it does need reworking. Sometimes it is overwhelming but seeing your progress makes me motivated to keep going.
